These programs are usually a small number of profiles held to tight tolerance, machined, assembled and delivered as kits rather than as stock lengths.

How these programs usually run

  • Tolerance agreed before tooling. Which dimensions are critical is settled at die review and written into the inspection sheet, so first article is checked against your drawing rather than against a general standard.
  • Machined and kitted, not just cut. Profiles arrive drilled, tapped and grouped by assembly, so the part goes to the line rather than to a saw.
  • Inspected twice before release. The mill checks it, BNA checks it again, and nothing ships on a certificate alone.

Can a heat sink be extruded to any fin geometry?

No — the limit is the aspect ratio between fin height and the gap between fins. Tall, closely spaced fins need very high pressure and wear the die tongue quickly, so past roughly a 10:1 height-to-gap ratio the profile becomes progressively more expensive rather than impossible. Send the thermal requirement and the geometry can be worked backwards from it.

What is the difference between 6061 and 6063 for machined parts?

6061 is stronger and machines to a cleaner edge, which is why it is specified for structural and machined machinery profiles. 6063 extrudes into more complex thin-wall shapes and takes a better anodized finish. If the part is going to be drilled, tapped and loaded, 6061-T6 is usually the right answer — but the program is built to whatever you specify.

Do you machine extrusions or only supply lengths?

Both. Profiles can ship as stock or cut lengths, or as finished parts — drilled, milled, tapped, punched, deburred and kitted to your bill of materials so they arrive line-ready.
